So the website says “swim with dolphins” but after reading the reviews it doesn’t look like you’re actually swimming with them? Do people actually get to swim with and touch the dolphins or are they just seeing them from afar?

Aloha Catherine, We absolutely do swim with dolphins, as long as conditions permit. Our tour takes place in the dolphins' natural environment - the ocean - so we cannot predict or control the dolphin or sea turtle behavior. We try to get all of our guests as great of a view of the dolphins as possible, but touching the wild marine life is not permitted. This is Hawaii state law. The law is in place because touching dolphins and sea turtles can remove their protective skin coating and make them susceptible to illness. We don't want that! But as others have mentioned, the dolphins are curious creatures and do sometimes come very close. Observing them is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Many children of all ages seem to have a great experience. Many toys and tools to help the not so great swimmers. Cheers!
Are the morning tours as crowded as the later tours? Is there really up to 70 people on each tour? That would seem to be too many for a peaceful wildlife viewing experience. Also, does the company ensure that the dolphins are not chased or harassed? I've been reading some things about how the Marine Mammal Protection Act discourages swimming less than 50 yards from Hawaiian spinner dolphins. Does this tour follow those guidelines?

They were careful to keep 100 yards away from the dolphin and made of very clear to the group we were to stay behind them as they lead us and not chase, touch, swim to a dolphin. I did think the groups were quite big, not for stressing the dolphins out but more for the fact people at the back couldn’t see them when they weren’t so close, but they make sure they go again to ensure everyone has a chance.

However, the dolphins are sometimes more active later in the day. This means that they sometimes swim by the group a little faster on the second tour. Wind also sometimes picks up later in the day. But of course, it is nature, so nothing is 100% predictable. Sometimes the second tour has a longer sighting than the first! But all of our tours tend to have memorable dolphin encounters. My husband is worried about what camera to bring - he is planning to be on the boat mostly but might get in the water some. Is there a place to secure his camera if he brings the expensive one while he is in the water? I'm planning on having a gopro with me in the water.
