Incredible opportunity! How many hours in a day would we typically be hiking? What time of day does each hike start?

Hi there, normally the hiking hours depends on the level of trip you choose. For easy hikes, you walk 3-4 hours a day, for moderate hike you want 5-6 hours day and strenuous hikes you walk 6-7 hours a day. On moderate and strenuous hike there will be a day or two where you will be walking 7-8 hours. These will be the days where you will to be hike to the major highlight of the trip, for examples, base camp of mountains or summit of a hill. One usually starts around 7:45- 8 am in the morning after breakfast, have lunch around noon and reach camp by 3-4 pm.
I am considering the trek called A week below Everest in March to celebrate my 60th birthday. I walk 3-4 miles several times a week and go to yoga. I know I would need to increase my walking distance but am wondering if I could do the walks at high elevation?

Hi there! It is not possible to tell in advance, if you will be fine in high altitudes. As the treks are made for everyone, they usually include enough acclimatisation, meaning that if you follow the advices, you should be fine. Nobody can guarantee you this, but I believe that you will love it either way :) Worse comes to worst, the team will take care of you and make sure you feel fine! Hope that helps and I hope you decide to take on the challenge and enjoy the Himalayas :)
Hi Andy, this October I also plan to go to Gosaikunda and apparently its on Tihar celebration which falls on 17-21 October. I experienced Tihar in October 2014 in Pokhara and was amazing. I wonder if I can see the Tihar celebration also at the villages I will pass on Gosaikunda trek. Did you see any? And, did you the trek 7 days or 8,5days? Thanks, Dewi

Hi there, glad to know that you going for the Gosaikunda trek this October. To answer your question, Tihar will be celebrated in the villages you will pass during the trek but it will not be that shiny and bright like you witnessed in Pokhara or Kathmandu. Also, the residents of Langtang are mostly Buddhist and celebrate festivals according to their religion. However, in the villages like Thulo Syabru, Chyolangpati, Laurebina you will witness mild celebrations. the houses will be lit up with oil lamps and you can also see a lot of people playing Deusi and Bhailo where they sing and dance in Neplali folk song unlike Pokhara/Kathmandu where they sing and dance in pop songs. Hope I have managed to answer your questions. Wishing you a great time in Nepal !!
I am looking at doing a 10 day trek below Annapura. Any recent reviews

I believe this question was directed to me because I recently wrote a review of my October 2015, Everest Base Camp Trek, a 14 day trek. Our guide company was Himalaya Travel and Adventure, a Katmandu based organization. Himalaya Travel and Adventure conducts treks all over Nepal and will custom design a trek based on your requests. Our guide had 24 years experience, spoke English very well and was a wealth of knowledge. Safety at higher altitudes is at the top of my list. We had no problems and, we felt well taken care of regarding the risks of mountaineering. Working with a Katmandu guide service will save money compared to working with a U.S. or European based company. If you love the mountains, go trekking in Nepal!
