The No. 1 Boston College Eagles (21-4-1, 13-3-1 HE) men’s hockey team is looking to win its first Beanpot title since 2016 as it takes on the No. 8 Boston University Terriers (15-10-1, 10-6-1 HE) in the championship game on Monday night at TD Garden in Boston.

Strange as it seems, Monday night’s matchup between Boston College and Boston University will mark the first time the two schools have faced off in the championship game of the men’s Beanpot since 2016.

Fowler won three games when the U.S. team captured the gold medal in the 2024 IIHF Junior World Championships and was a third-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2023 NHL SuperDraft. Fowler is at his best in the biggest arenas under the brightest lights.

The teams met in a home-and-home series in January, with BC sweeping by scores of 6-2 and 2-0. But BU will gladly accept those results in exchange for a trophy-lifting win Monday night. The Terriers last won the Beanpot in 2022, while BC's most recent championship was in 2016. Northeastern has won five of the last six tournaments.

Maine made up some ground with wins over Northeastern and UMass to jump ahead of BU by 1 point into second place, and 3 points behind BC.

Eight players tallied goals for BC, including Ryan Leonard’s NCAA best 23rd, while goalie Jacob Fowler recorded 28 saves.

The Eagles have their sights set on getting back to the national championship game after coming one win short last season. Led by future NHLers Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault, BC is also trying to advance to the Beanpot final for the first time since losing to Northeastern in 2019.
