Although winter may linger a while longer, daylight saving time and the first signs of spring will come to Texas in about a month.

Lawmakers in Illinois are renewing efforts to establish permanent daylight saving time (DST) in the state. Two recently introduced bills seek to end the practice that sees clocks changed twice a year.

"The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social in 2024. "Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation."

Though Phil the Groundhog issued a devastating warning about a prolonged winter, daylight saving time is still around the corner. Daylight saving time involves "springing forward" the clocks so that the days stay brighter for longer for several months of the year.

In 2025, those participating in the ritual will “spring ahead,” for the warmer months on Sunday, March 9 — marking the end of standard time and the beginning of daylight saving time. At 2 a.m., the time will become 3 a.m.
