A New York prison guard strike is entering its third day, and Gov. Kathy Hochul is threatening to deploy the National Guard.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is threatening to deploy National Guard troops to restore order as a strike among prison guards across the state entered its second day.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday preparations to use the New York National Guard to protect correction officers who are currently on the job, inmates, and the communities surrounding the correctional facilities.

Corrections officers, without their union’s approval, refused to show up for work to protest what they say are hazardous conditions and severe staff shortages.

The state said it is preparing to deploy the New York National Guard to DOCCS facilities where officers are on strike.
