Elk Grove City Council decides on name for zoo
The Elk Grove City Council decided Wednesday on the name "Elk Grove — Sacramento Zoo," according to an announcement from the city on Thursday. The decision resolves a dispute among council members that emerged last month over the best name for the 60-acre project planned off Lotz Parkway near the city's southern edge.

When the doors open for the new zoo, it'll be called the Elk Grove - Sacramento Zoo. It was the second name brought before the city council for a vote. Elk Grove City Council revisited the initial proposal of "The Greater Sacramento Zoo at Elk Grove" to make the city's name more prominent.
