About 150 people gathered Monday afternoon at the International Skating Center of Connecticut for a national moment of silence for the figure skaters, coaches and families who were killed in the American Airlines plane crash last Wednesday night in Washington,

Chris Collins, one of the victims in the Washington, D.C. plane crash, is being remembered for his active volunteer work and love for animals at a Connecticut dog shelter.

At 3:35 p.m. Monday, skating rinks across the country, including in West Hartford and Simsbury, held a simultaneous five-minute moment of silence for the 64 victims on American Airlines Flight 5342 and three on the Army Blackhawk helicopter.

The International Skating Center of Connecticut will observe five minutes of silence Monday in memory of skating coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.
