People in several northern U.S. states may be able to see aurora borealis, also know as the northern lights, on Tuesday night ahead of a minor geomagnetic storm that is set to hit. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s Space Weather Prediction Center has released its prediction for the aurora view line for Tuesday and Wednesday,

Aspiring viewers of the Northern Lights are encouraged to go as far north as possible, away from light pollution, and face the northern horizon. The best time to view the lights is between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time, and a high vantage point increases the likelihood of seeing the phenomena.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) expects the aurora borealis will be visible overhead in locations such as Inuvik, Juneau, Edmonton, and Winnipeg and visible low on the horizon as far south in the United States as Seattle, Des Moines, Chicago, Cleveland, and Boston (see slide two).
