Gibbs High School history teacher Dennis Zuercher’s jaw dropped as Pinellas County schools superintendent Kevin Hendrick announced his name as the district’s 2025 teacher of the year.

The third-generation teacher said the award is extremely special since it comes from the community he grew up in.
