2023年10月31日 · Kolekole Pass has been the only mountain route connecting the Waiʻanae Coast and Central Oʻahu. It links Schofield Barracks and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam's Lualualei Annex in Nānākuli; it became off-limits to civilians in 2011.

The Kolekole Trail to Puʻu Hapapa is the easiest section of this stretch to Pālehua, and there are many more difficult sections ahead, including both the Gorilla Heads and Pōhākea Pass.

Kolekole Trail takes you to Puu Hapapa, the fifth highest mountain on the Waianae range. Access is via the Schofield Barracks Lyman Gate off Lyman Road that goes through Kolekole Pass. The trail itself is well graded at the start.
