Well, both the Christian god and Zeus are substitute father figures. Fathers in both ancient Greece and bronze-age Judea tended to have white hair and beards. White hair denotes age and wisdom, and beards are a common custom for older men in certain societies. It wouldn't really make sense to have a father-figure god who was clean-shaven and young.
