Werewolves are former humans that are afflicted with a hereditary curse. The most common way for a werewolf to be created is for a human to survive being scratched (or presumably bitten) by a transformed werewolf. The victim remains human for the more month prior to the next full moon, at which time they will transform.

Werewolves (classified Type 3) are a post- human supernatural species which, during the full moon every month, transform into fearsome, monstrous, wolf-like beasts. In their human form, a werewolf cannot be distinguished from normal humans, although their senses of smell and hearing seem to sharpen before and after the full moon.

Ray was a werewolf that befriended Josh and taught him the basics of being a werewolf and about his werewolf abilities. However, he harbors an alarmingly strong hatred for vampires and the injustice remarking that they don't mess with werewolves when the moon is full.

Series 1 is set in the English city of Bristol and introduces George Sands (a reluctant werewolf in his mid-twenties) and John Mitchell (a vampire with the appearance and behaviour of a young man in his mid-twenties who is over a hundred years old).
