Jan 7, 2013 · I installed the repaired tach on Friday (1/2/15) and it worked and showed engine hours. The boat was used on Saturday (1/3/15). When I went back to the boat this week to install my Noland NMEA2000 engine monitor, I noticed the LCD wasn't working.

Nov 1, 2010 · So same vintage as your 1981 37C. My Yanmar 2QM20 is attached to the mounting bed also by stainless steel lag screws. When I bought the boat last year, the surveyor noticed during the sea trial that two of the engine mounts were moving around a bit. (I negotiated a modest repair allowance to cover in case I needed a professional repair.)

Jun 3, 2012 · We were able to raise the boat the same day, but the boat, including the Yanmar 3QM30, was completely under water. I've been offered the boat at a VERY reasonable price but have a big concern about whether the engine can be salvaged without pulling and rebuilding it. What actions should I take at this point or should I walk away from this.

Dec 5, 2004 · If I ever buy another older boat I will look for one without an engine or an engine that needs replacing. But at 27 years old the engine in the boat that you are considering will reflect care and maintneance more than quality new. With our present boat we plan to use it until it fails and then repower with a new engine.

Dec 16, 2003 · i recently dug up some info on setting the timing , basically take the boat out and while runnujnat full throttle rotate the distributor to the spot where the engine has the most power ( read highest boat speed ) , next adjust the idle mixture screw to max power . the idle screw gain is minimal but every little bit helps . point gap is .012 ...

Jan 7, 2022 · Here's a photo of the stainless steel exhaust riser I just removed on my M25XP. I was raising the engine to pull the tranny when the water injection nipple got caught on the side of the structure. After getting it cleared I found the nipple was loose and the weld fillet on one side popped right off, like it was slag.

Mar 13, 2017 · Clean the face of the engine block, Apply a sealant/gasket. Install new or refurbished pump. Drink a beer while sealant sets... return belts to operating position, refit any other covers. Fill tank with coolant and burp the system... I had a friend stand on the gunnel, hold the standing rigging and rock the boat to burp the air.. Worked great.

Aug 18, 2015 · Yanmar 3YM20, about four years old, new panel when the engine was installed. Panel has tach with digital hour meter incorporated just below it. Panel also contains ignition switch assembly. When I pulled into the marina yesterday, I went to record engine hours after shutting down. No readout. Tried again last night, nothing.

Oct 14, 2020 · - Good news. The engine is huffing again - exhaust cooling water exiting the boat. No more drips from the hose that runs from the water pump to the heat exchanger (dripping at the pump end). I believe this is due to lowered head pressure. I opened up both ends of the heat exchanger. There is no way a .22 cleaning rod is going into those holes.

Apr 4, 2024 · I definitely fall in to the "boat fixer" classification. Nothing here that is beyond my skills to repair/replace. I've turned my hand to woodwork, fibre-glassing, plumbing, electrical and engine repairs (including a rebuild) over my 3 boats, and 25 years of ownership. Electrical/Electronics is my line of work, so no dramas there.
