2024年3月15日 · The F40 began rolling out in 1975 and quickly began to replace older models in the Amtrak fleet and other passenger rail systems. Made by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, the engines became known for their rugged durability and longevity.

2023年12月18日 · Caltrain will complete PCEP and replace the 1985 – 1987 gallery cars and diesel locomotives with Stadler EMU trainsets in September 2024. Step one of fleet replacement is formal disposition of equipment no longer in revenue service. EMD F40 diesel locomotives are ready for immediate disposition.

The EMD F40PH is a four-axle 3,000–3,200 hp (2.2–2.4 MW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in several variants from 1975 to 1992. Intended for use on Amtrak 's short-haul passenger routes, it became the backbone of Amtrak's diesel fleet after the failure of the EMD SDP40F.

2024年10月16日 · The Southern California Railway Museum is trying to raise $50,000 to save a recently-retired Caltrain F40PH-2. In September, Caltrain launched its electrified service between San Francisco and San Jose, resulting in the retirement of its fleet of 20 F40PH-2 locomotives that have been working on the Peninsula since the 1980s.

2024年11月18日 · Last week, Caltrain announced it had sold 19 of its F40 locomotives and 90 of its recently retired gallery cars to Lima, Peru, for a new commuter rail service. The equipment was deemed surplus following the electrification of Caltrain between San Francisco and San Jose.

Caltrain's F40 fleet consists of several series of EMD and MPI built engines. The original F40 paint scheme used until 1997. The original F40 fleet for Caltrain was built by EMD in 1985-1987. These units were numbered 900-919. The exact model of these units was F40PH-2.
