White River Falls is central Oregon’s mini-Niagara although water levels diminish considerably as you go into the summer. In fact, it is a two-tiered waterfall with each tier having its own name (the lower tier is Celestial Falls).

Historically Celestial Falls has been recognized as one of the best waterfalls in the country for paddlers to sharpen their skills on big drops.

Celestial Gorge on Oregon's White River used to be run fairly often by Kayakers, but it is now illegal. This is very unfortunate, because the 50-foot middle falls in the gorge was probably the most-run large waterfall in Oregon prior to the ban.

White River Falls State Park is a state park in north central Oregon. It is located 35 miles (56 km) by road south of The Dalles and 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east of Tygh Valley. The focus of the park is the falls where wild and scenic White River plunges 90 feet (27 m) from a basalt shelf.

Celestial Falls, which was formally named in 2014, is the 45-foot lower tier of White River Falls. It was a well-known kayak ‘run’ until Oregon State Parks banned the practice recently. The best viewpoint of Celestial Falls and its basalt amphitheater is from near the abandoned Pacific Power and Light Plant.

Tygh Valley is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. Tygh Valley is situated 3½ miles west of Celestial Falls.
