A tephigram is one of a number [Note 1] of thermodynamic diagrams commonly used in weather analysis and forecasting. The name evolved from the original name "T--gram" to describe the axes of temperature (T) and entropy used to create the plot. [1]

The way we tell whether it will get cloudy, or if we will get thunderstorms is by using the tephigram (sounding or skew-T diagram). We know the surface temperature, pressure, dew point and ELR. By using the dew point (or absolute humidity) and following the mixing ratio axis up to the ELR from the surface pressure, we can find the CCL.

The tephigram is a thermodynamic diagram used to plot vertical profiles of atmospheric temperature, moisture, and wind. (See an example blank tephigram, which opens in a separate window.) It has been used for many decades to assess a variety of meteorological conditions, most notably atmospheric stability.

Throughout this user guide we will make use of three data sets to plot temperature profiles on a tephigram. Currently, the tephigram module can only plot data from ascii text files. These files may contain pressure, temperature, wind speed and wind direction data sets.
