2021年1月15日 · The Philippines is among the world’s leading producers and exporters of mangrove crab, Scylla serrata. Production in 2018 was 21,680 metric tonnes, a 14-per-cent increase over the previous year. Of the total volume, almost 96 per cent came from the aquaculture sector.

Giant mudcrab, Scylla serrata, is part of Singapore’s iconic chilli crab dish and the local supply far outweighs the demand for local consumption. One of the local major suppliers of 50-100 tonnes per month has seen a drop in overseas mudcrab supply which could be due to climate change and excessive capture fishery.

We found that S. paramamosain and the hybrid (S. paramamosain ♀ × S. serrata ♂) produced smaller eggs with shorter development periods than S. serrata and the hybrid (S. serrata ♀ × S. paramamosain ♂). Both hybrids exhibited higher growth rates in the crablet stage than their purebred parents.
