We would love to be able to feature the incredible stories of all of our Sisters. However, time and space limits us to these 175 individual Sisters of Charity/projects you will read about over the course of our celebratory year. We endeavored to represent the geographic spread of our Congregation as well as every area of service.

2024年4月16日 · In 2024, the Sisters of Charity – Halifax celebrate 175 years as a religious congregation. In 1849, the Sisters of Charity of New York missioned four sisters to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their arrival on May 11, 1849 on a Halifax wharf is our foundational moment. We began teaching and established an orphanage and hospital.

The Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul were founded on May 11, 1849, when the four founding Sisters of Charity arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from New York City; this has been designated a National Historic Event.

Established in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1849, the Sisters of Charity began their ministry in teaching but soon spread into other areas. They taught in both public and parochial schools, cared for orphans, and later established a hospital…the first of several across Canada.
