2005年2月24日 · I have a New Hermes metal shear. It is for engraving shops, so only meant for thin aluminum or brass sheet. It requires great effort to cut aluminum and I would not even try to do stainless with it. I have a 24" Di-Acro shear and it is an excellent shear, rated 16 ga. soft steel and much thinner stainless. Buffalo Forge No. 14 Shear - Practical Machinist
2007年8月6日 · It's a Buffalo Forge No.14 shear, a small bench model with 3" blades. It's only 6" x 6", with a 14" removable handle. It had been "professionally sandblasted", but was in good shape overall. I painted it satin black, sharpened the blades, and made the wood base for it. A nice useful machine for small sheet metal work.

Proper material for shear blades? - Practical Machinist
2020年8月18日 · I have an older Edwards No. 10 'alligator' shear. It's a big (I'll bet 600+ pounds) manual shear with "scissors" type jaws (as opposed to a "guillotine" type.) I just resharpened the blades- which is kind of an experiment- but I had to grind one down about 1/16" or …
Metal Shear Knife Grind Angles - Practical Machinist
2018年12月17日 · I recently came into possession of a 12” benchtop metal shear. Hermes brand, seems to be well-made if lightweight. My understanding is the shear is rated for light gage non-ferrous metals; however, the moving vertical knife is ground at a very thin angle, as in kitchen knife sharp. The fixed...

2006年8月18日 · Breechman, hi there. For your shear blade I'd use what we in the UK call guage plate, in the US I think it's called 01, it's vanadium oil hardening minimum distortion and shrink steel available in many sizes ground finish and in 18" lengths, follow the hardening instructions on the wrapper and you'll be fine. ..... with a bit of luck you won't have to have them surface ground.
Shearing Question?? - Practical Machinist
2012年2月14日 · I'm a small shop here in Colorado. I make custom woodworking tools, especially handsaws. My question is this, I need a tooling solution to shear my 1095 Swedish Spring Steel. The thickness varies from .020 to .028. 3-1 hand shear/brakes won't even put a dent in it. I can use hand shears but that is tough on my hands.
Small bench top shear/break? - Practical Machinist
2021年7月8日 · Had a thought it might be nice to have a small bench top sheer brake for making small parts, like brackets. I looked around and found machines like this one: 12" 3-in-1 Sheet Metal Machine at Grizzly.com The issue is they are specified for a maximum of about 20 ga. mild steel. Now, this is for the full 12 in width.
Old Cincinnati Shear help? - Practical Machinist
2010年2月4日 · The shear used to cut all I needed until I found the 8'. Processed a lot of 16 and 20 ga stainless. I might be weird ,but never cut anything over nameplate no matter how small in width. Cuts have always been clean, no strain on machine. Will add the shear is in good condition, never has had dirty metal run through, blades are cleaned and oiled.
