Built by George Prewett in 1932 on the site of a campground on the Cherokee Trail of Tears, the Stonydell complex consisted of a hotel, restaurant, cabins, large fish pond, and huge 100-foot swimming pool.

In 1932, George Prewett constructed Stony Dell Resort, with incredible stonework and an enormous swimming pool, to capitalize on the highway near Arlington. It quickly became a destination for soldiers on leave, people traveling along Route 66, and locals like Cordell Webb's church youth group.

Stony Dell was located a short drive from nearby Ft. Leonard Wood military base and was a popular hangout for the troops on weekends.
