Isomerization. Isomerization processes have been used to isomerize n-butane to iso-butane used in alkylation and C 5 /C 6 n-paraffins in light naphtha to the corresponding iso-paraffins to produce high-octane number gasoline stocks after the adoption of lead-free gasoline. Catalytic isomerization processes that use hydrogen have been developed ...
The isomerization process begins with the C5 and C6 feed mixing with the pentane recycle stream. The combined streams enter a deisopentanizer, which sends the iC5 overhead to the gasoline blending pool. iC5 is separated out immediately because it is nC5 and nC6 that isomerizes. iC5 is already an isomer of nC5 and does not isomerize.

Isomerization is typically used for normal butane conversion to isobutane or straight run naphtha isomerization to substantially improve octane. Here we will focus on naphtha isomerization. This process isomerizes straight run naphtha, which has a low octane value and catalytically isomerizes it to create a much higher octane product.
What is Isomerization? - EKT Interactive
Isomerization is a process used in oil refining to convert straight-chain hydrocarbons into branched-chain hydrocarbons, which have higher octane ratings and better performance characteristics as gasoline components. The process typically involves the use of a catalyst, such as platinum or zeolite, under high pressure and temperature conditions.
Isomerization - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Isomerization is an intermediate, fed preparation-type process. There are more than 200 units worldwide, with a processing capacity of 1.5 million barrels/day of light paraffins. Two types of units exist: C 4 isomerization and C 5 /C 6 isomerization.
Isomerization Unit Process In Refinery, Catalytic Isomerization …
Isomerization Unit: converts linear molecules such as normal pentane into higher-octane branched molecules for blending into the end-product gasoline. Also used to convert linear normal butane into isobutane for use in the alkylation unit.
Isomerization in Petroleum Processing | SpringerLink
2015年1月1日 · Isomerization involves the skeletal isomerization of a paraffin to a more highly branched paraffin with the same carbon number. Several light paraffin isomerization technologies are reviewed in this chapter, including both process and catalyst technologies. Flow schemes and economics are reviewed.
Many of the processes in a modern refinery are devoted to improving the octane value of chemical compounds that are used in blending gasoline. One important process for improving the octane value is the isomerization unit in the refinery. It takes low-octane, normal-parafins and chemically reshapes them into higher-octane, iso-parafins.
Main Processes in Hydrocarbon Refining. Isomerization
In a refinery, isomerization complements the catalytic reforming, and aims to transform n-paraffins into iso-paraffins, either to prepare products required for transformations: n-C4 and i-C4, intended for alkylation; either to increase the octane number of the light products of the gasoline pool, such as the primary distillation fractions C5 or ...
Isomerization Process - Refinery Distillation - Brewiki
2023年9月1日 · of substances Isomerization is the process of rearranging the atoms of a molecule to form a different isomer. This can affect the distillation of substances in a few different ways. Firstly, different isomers may have different boiling points and vapor pressures, so the distillation process may be altered by different isomers of a particular ...
