2025年1月9日 · The EF Scale was revised from the original Fujita Scale to reflect better examinations of tornado damage surveys so as to align wind speeds more closely with associated storm damage. The new scale has to do with how most structures are designed.

An Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale, developed by a forum of nationally renowned meteorologists and wind engineers, makes improvements to the original F scale. This EF Scale has replaced the original F scale, which has been used to assign tornado ratings since 1971.

2015年4月9日 · The most notable tornado of the event was the EF-4 that hit the Rochelle and Fairdale areas, killing 2 persons and injuring 22. This tornado was the strongest tornado to occur in northern Illinois in 25 years.

The tornado produced EF-4 damage in Cayce, including the total destruction of buildings and complete collapse of the walls in family homes. The tornado reached Hickman County at 9:06 p.m., where the tornado damaged 40 buildings, with at least 12 buildings completely destroyed.

2024年4月26日 · Historically speaking, these are the strongest tornadoes in eastern Nebraska or western Iowa (the NWS Omaha/Valley coverage area) in nearly 10 years, when four EF-4 tornadoes impacted northeast Nebraska (including Pilger) on June 16, 2014.

2025年1月23日 · The tornado intensified to a strong tornado (EF-2 to EF-3) as it moved northeastward through southwestern St. Olaf Township and crossed Beebe Lake. It likely reached maximum EF-4 intensity after it crossed Highway 82 and destroyed a machine shop and yard on the downwind side.

The tornado moved rapidly eastward toward the town of Picher, OK where it destroyed about 200 homes, killed 6 people, and injured another 150 people at about 540 pm. Damage in and around Picher was rated EF-4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

The EF Scale takes into account more variables than the original F Scale did when assigning a wind speed rating to a tornado. The EF Scale incorporates 28 damage indicators (DIs) such as building type, structures, and trees.
