Upper Lake Mary is the largest of Flagstaff's twin lakes. This long, narrow reservoir is especially popular with power boaters and water skiers because there is no motor size limit on it. But it's also popular with those who prefer people-power or windpower over horsepower.

Upper Lake Mary is especially popular with power boaters and water skiers because there is no motor size limit on it. The lake has northern pike, channel cat, crappie, and some trout. There are two paved boat ramps at the parking area with picnic tables, ramadas, barbeque grills, and toilets.

Access to this lake is directly off Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road). The Lower Lake Mary Picnic Area at the northwestern end of the lake offers a great picnic location, no matter how high or low the water is, with wide open views and lots of tables and grills under ramadas.

Pine Grove Campground is spread out through a cool stand of pines bordered by high country meadows. Access to the campground is via a short spur off Lake Mary Road. Supplies are available at convenience stores along the highway and in Flagstaff, about 20 miles away.

Lakeview Campground is a tent camper’s paradise with its terraced, hillside camp sites creatively tucked in amongst an open old growth stand of ponderosa pine. With all the easy forest and lake access, this is a also great place for wildlife watchers.

Access: Drive 13 miles south from Flagstaff on Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road). The picnic area is on the west side of the road in a grove of trees. Click on map thumbnail for larger view. General Notes: Season: Early May through mid-October.

When Lower Lake Mary has water in it, it's a popular place to fish for catfish and trout, depending on which has been stocked most recently. When it's dry, it's a good place to fly a kite. Lake Mary Road has wide paved shoulders and makes an excellent place to bike, roller blade or jog.

Canyon Vista Campground is located near Walnut Canyon and Lower Lake Mary. This area consists of ponderosa pine, mixed conifer, aspen and oak, which offer good photo opportunities, interesting geology and views of the San Francisco Peaks.

Wood Memorial Trail (universal access) links Lakeview Campground with Lake Mary Narrows Picnic Area. This trail leads to the water and through a tunnel under Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road) so people don't have to cross the busy highway.
